Curriculum vitae

Steve Brown joined Ramboll in 2014 as Director - Rail. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 29 years' experience in programme / project management, programme controls, contract administration / negotiation and asset management. Education: BEng(Hons) CEng MICE

Steve is responsible for developing the rail business and overseeing some of Ramboll’s UK rail projects.

During 14 years at Network Rail, Steve spent 12 years in Project Management (eight years as Programme Manager and four as Programme Controller), and two years in Asset Management. He has expertise in heavy rail, light rail, public transport and highway civil engineering works, as well as new build, refurbishment, asset management and maintenance building projects.

Before joining Ramboll, Steve was lead client for development and construction of Network Rail's £50m headquarters in Basingstoke. The new Campus headquarters will encompass office accommodation for 400 people, training facilities for project management and maintenance staff, signalling control centre for the whole route and associated health and welfare facilities.

He also provided project management and planning advice in preparation for setting up the alliance between Network Rail and SSWT.

In 2010, as Programme Manager at Network Rail, Steve managed the Commercial Property team of 40 staff with a typical annual programme value of c£50m.

During this time, he project managed construction of Southampton Airport Parkway multi-storey car park on behalf of Network Rail. This included the procurement process, the planning application and undertaking a full design review to NR GRIP protocol. Steve oversaw the principal contractor's work and led all negotiations with the client, Stagecoach South West Trains (SSWT). The project was delivered safely, within budget, ahead of schedule and to demanding expectations to satisfy the franchise commitment made by SSWT to DfT/ORR.

Recent projects

Fitzroy Place

Fitzroy place is the most significant new development in Fitzrovia in over 50 years. This mixed use scheme includes almost 300 homes in three in situ concrete framed buildings, as well as 210,000 sq. ft. of offices and 21,000 sq. ft. of restaurants and shops in two steel framed buildings, encompassing some of the most desirable residences and commercial premises in London.

Pulkovo Airport

Work began on Pulkovo Airport in March 2008 to deliver Grimshaw’s winning architectural concept, whilst keeping the existing Pulkovo Airport fully functioning. As the lead design consultant, Ramboll helped to create a world leading airport terminal conforming to international best practice, in parallel with restrictive Russian standards.


Ormiston Academies

Ramboll is working with contractor Balfour Beatty under a design & build contract to deliver five school projects in the UK counties of Essex and Norfolk. The scheme, which is due for completion in 2014, is the latest in our five-year working relationship with Balfour Beatty, with whom we have completed more than 10 school developments, including work on the Building Schools for the Future government initiative. For this new scheme, collectively known as Ormiston Academies, Ramboll's engineers and consultants are providing a full range of services.

The five academies are publicly-funded independent schools, teaching children aged 11-18 years. The Gateway, Park and Rivers Academies are located in Essex, and the Venture and Victory Academies are in Norfolk. In 2006, Gateway Academ ...
