Ouagadougou would seem like any normal African capital, over-populated and under-serviced by infrastructure, if not for the Sonabel power station phase 1. Contributing to bolster much needed electricity for a sprawling city, the project improved welfare and development of many ordinary Burkinabes. Ramboll provided the civil turnkey contract for design, supply and erection services.
Greenfield Project
Ramboll’s participation in the new power plant, comprising one 18 MW-MAN B&W engine, was a new green field project with electrical grid extension to the nearby existing plant. Ramboll’s works included the design of concrete, design and supply of structural steel and cladding, and erection management.
The industrial house was to be designed to endure seasonal Saharan storms and a harsh African climate. Ramboll was asked to complete works in just 7 months, so our in-house designers needed to be efficient and precise the first time. With the aid of our international supply partners in Sweden, Finland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Denmark, Ramboll delivered the supply to site on time.
Process Management
As a requirement of the financial aid programme, a local contractor was chosen to execute the civil works. Supporting the erection phase, Ramboll provided skilled construction managers and supervisors to ensure the required quality standards.
With an enthusiastic and positive audience, Ramboll conducted class every morning to 30 local staff and conveyed the information needed to accomplish the day’s tasks. This procedure resulted in completion of the construction process 2 weeks early, and a newly skilled and invigorated Burkinabe contractor ready to take on new international challenges for Ouagadougou.
