Under the leadership of the Ruler of Fujairah H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi and Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Fujairah Municipality initiated the development of a strategic Framework Plan for the Emirate of Fujairah, one of seven Emirates making up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ramboll was commissioned by Fujairah Municipality to develop Fujairah’s Framework Plan through a multi-disciplinary approach.
Fujairah is a gateway to the Indian UOcean and a place of significant geopolitical importance for the region. Coupled with far reaching strategic opportunity and a range of internal development and growth pressures, the Emirate is proactively seeking to develop and implement a strategic direction that considers the Emirate’s potential economic, environmental and development needs beyond 2040.
The Framework Plan - ‘Fujairah 2040’, will present the strategic direction for integrated sustainable growth encompassing the realms of economic, social, urban, rural, infrastructure, environment, cultural heritage and sustainability in the local and regional context.
Fujairah 2040 provides the Government of Fujairah with tailored tools to manage the future growth of the Emirate, at both the regional and municipal level. The Framework Plan is based on a balanced approach towards sustainable economic growth and urban development – together with ensuring conservation of the Emirates environmental and cultural heritage assets.
While the key role of the Framework Plan is to provide a short and long-term planning framework at an Emirate level, the Plan will also allow the Fujairah Government to better address federal, regional and municipal level planning priorities and projects. The Framework Plan will also act as an important holistic guide in directing growth and management in key sectors such as regional and local tourism, major urban developments and the management of natural resources.
