In 2012 Maersk FPSO awarded Ramboll Oil & Gas an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract comprising enhancements to the jack-up drilling rig, Maersk Inspirer.

An asset in the Volve oil field

The Maersk Inspirer is an ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig with integrated process facility and wellhead module. It is operated by Maersk FPSO for Statoil, and it is currently operating in the Volve oil field off the coast of Norway, 220 kilometres from Stavanger. Maersk Inspirer is the world’s largest and most advanced jack-up drilling rig, and combined with Maersk FPSOs' high-end process facility, it is one-of-a-kind. It gives the Inspirer the capability to move into smaller oil fields during harsh conditions, when fixed installations are not an option.

EPC contract - from design to fabrication

The objective of the project was to increase the well capacity on the Maersk Inspirer by incorporating a new production well and a water injection well. In addition, the client wanted an option for two additional wells. Ramboll's responsibilities comprised the detailed design of four wells, fabrication and installation, the procurement of equipment and materials, as well as an extension of the existing ABB control system and the wellhead control panel. This gave Ramboll the overall project management responsibility which also included installation planning and implementation, all engineering, MC completion and commissioning.
